In June 2025, the Rampura Forest Range office of Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary led an initiative to strengthen conservation awareness and improve visitor engagement within the sanctuary.
Last Wilderness Foundation, with support from Dalmia Charitable Trust, extended support to this effort by developing and providing educational and interpretive materials.
The initiative focused on enhancing how visitors and local communities interact with and understand the sanctuary’s biodiversity. Illustrated posters and easy-to-read brochures in English and Hindi were created to introduce key species and habitats in an accessible way especially for young learners and first-time visitors.
To make the experience more immersive, the space was transformed with creative visual elements. Ceiling stickers featuring bird silhouettes and floor decals designed as animal pugmarks encouraged visitors to observe, explore, and “track” wildlife in an interactive setting.
A small nature library was also established, offering books for different age groups, creating a lasting learning resource for forest staff, students, and community members.
Going forward, nature guide training will be integrated into this initiative. This will create livelihood opportunities for local youth while equipping them to lead informed and engaging visitor experiences ultimately strengthening community-led conservation efforts in the landscape.
This initiative reflects how proactive leadership at the forest range level, supported by thoughtful partnerships, can create meaningful opportunities for people to connect with and care for the natural world.
