A Milestone for Pardhi Education: Parents Take the Lead in Supporting Their Children’s Future

Education becomes truly transformative when families are actively involved in a child’s learning journey. Recognising this, Last Wilderness Foundation (LWF), in collaboration with the boys and girls hostel in Panna, organised a Students–Parents Meeting to strengthen communication between Pardhi families, students, and educators, while reinforcing the importance of continued education.

The meeting focused on key aspects of children’s educational development, including reducing school dropouts, improving access to essential documentation required for admissions and government benefits, and introducing the Pardhi Education Monitoring Committee (PEMC). It also provided parents with an opportunity to interact directly with hostel staff, understand their children’s progress, and discuss the challenges they face in pursuing education.

The gathering marked a significant milestone for the Pardhi community. For one of the first times, parents participated in large numbers and demonstrated a strong interest in their children’s education, reflecting a growing recognition of education as a pathway to greater opportunities and long-term social and economic empowerment. Their willingness to engage with educators and become partners in their children’s learning represents an encouraging shift towards stronger community ownership of education.

One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the formation of an 11-member Pardhi Education Monitoring Committee (PEMC), comprising representatives from Pardhi deras across the landscape. The committee serves as a vital bridge between the community, hostels, and LWF, working collectively to ensure that every child receives consistent support throughout their educational journey.

The committee plays an active role in encouraging school enrolment, monitoring attendance and academic progress, supporting documentation, addressing barriers to education, and coordinating with hostel authorities and LWF facilitators to reduce dropouts and improve student retention.

By placing parents and community leaders at the centre of the process, the Pardhi Education Monitoring Committee is fostering a culture of shared responsibility for education. This collaborative approach not only strengthens accountability but also helps create an enabling environment where more children can continue their studies, realise their potential, and build brighter futures.
